Perth Youth Theatre’s Multiplex goes behind the scenes at the movies

11 Jun 2012 in Dance & Drama, Highland

Perth’s Youth Arts Festival is in full swing with the 250 young people who take part in Horsecross Arts Join in activities showcasing their talents in a series of theatre, music and singing performances throughout the month of June.

It’s Lights, Camera, Action! for Perth Youth Theatre S5/6 A as they take a hilarious look behind the scenes at the movies in Christopher William Hill’s Multiplex in Perth Theatre on 15 and 16 June.  Directed by Eve Jamieson, Multiplex shines a light on the shadowy existence of the ushers, exposing the curious hierarchy that rules their world:

“There’s Plankton, the lowest of the low, then there’s Dudes – they’re cool but don’t know movies, and finally – on top of the food chain there’s the Buffs who know everything about every movie ever made”.

Jennie Fogg who plays Spike in Multiplex said:

“It’s been a great Perth Youth Theatre year and it’s all come together to make a cracking show”.

It’s back to the classroom for Perth Youth Theatre S5/6 B on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 June when they present Jon Godber’s Teechers in Perth Theatre.

Mr Nixon, the new drama teacher, arrives to find his new school rife with cynical colleagues, obstructive caretakers and naughty students.  Can he and his pupils make it through to the end of term play with their sanity intact?!

The Youth Arts Festival concludes with Mikey and Addie on Saturday 30 June.  Presented by visiting company Andy Manley, Rob Evans and macrobert, this is a fast-paced, funny and emotional tale about the challenges of growing up suitable for aged 9+.

A fast-paced, funny and emotional tale which looks

at the difficulties of growing up. It’s hard to tell when

your life will change. Hard to spot that moment, that

day when you wake up normal, but end up falling

far from everything you’ve ever known. Spinning into

nothingness. Today is that day. Mikey and Addie is

a visual piece of storytelling that asks how do you

work out who you are when everything around you

is changing.
