The Big Crafty Summer Fair to take place in Shetland
12 Jun 2012 in Shetland, Visual Arts & Crafts
Shetland Arts & Crafts Association are proud to announce their first ever summer event – The Big Crafty Summer Fair, to be held at Shetland Museum over three days in June.
The association have held the very popular Christmas Craft Fair at the Clickimin Centre for many years, but never a summer show – until now.
Ian Gidney, chairman, told us “We wanted something a bit different from our usual formula. We had all enjoyed the Flavour of Shetland events, so something along those lines seemed the way to go.”
The event will be both inside the museum (in the auditorium), and outside – in the stalls last seen at the Tall Ships.
Emma Blain is the main organiser of the show. “We wanted to make this more than just a craft fair – we bairns’ activities, to make it fun for all the family. The museum is holding a barbecue throughout the event, so there are lots of reasons to come along – plus, of course a chance for both Shetland folk and visitor to see our most talented makers and designers in one place.”
Ian Gidney again; “This should be a really good event – the museum are right behind us in this, and have been very keen to help us make the fair a success. An added bonus, from our point of view, is that the site of our show happens to be one of the best museums in Scotland.
“So, for the very finest of craft work, all presented by the makers themselves, come along to the Big Crafty Summer Fair.”
The Big Crafty Summer Fair will be held on Friday 22nd June until Sunday 24th June 2012. Admission is free.
