SCO visit Strathpeffer and Kingussie.

29 Jun 2012 in Highland, Music

Following on from last year’s hugely successful concert, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra returns to Strathpeffer Pavilion on Friday 20 July with a programme of music by Mozart, Haydn and Cimarosa.

Popular guest conductor Nicholas McGegan joins the Orchestra for Haydn’s Symphony No 88 in G and Mozart’s Symphony No 31 ‘Paris’, both written to impress the Parisian audiences of their times. The programme also features both well-known operatic favourites and rarities, including Mozart’s Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, Cimarosa’s Il Maestro di Capella and arias by Haydn, performed by the young South African baritone William Berger.

Following these concerts, the SCO, McGegan and Berger head into the studio to record a disc of arias from operas including Mozart’s Don Giovanni and The Magic Flute and Haydn’s Armida and L’anima del filosofo.

The concert forms part of the Orchestra’s 34th year of summer touring, and will also be performed in Stirling and Kingussie on 19 and 21 July. The SCO will also give concerts in Inverness (16 August), Perth (17 August) and Dumfries (18 August).

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra receives funding from the Scottish Government. The Orchestra’s programme of summer touring is generously supported by the Misses Barrie Charitable Trust.
