Seaside Art and Tea Parties at an talla solais

16 Jul 2012 in Highland, Visual Arts & Crafts

Here are a selection of events and exhibitions coming up at an talla solais in Ullapool this July-August 2012.

Raku Tea Party
Thursday 19th July 2012, 6 – 9pm
Allison Weightman will be running a drop-in workshop to create beautiful raku tea bowls. Go along and make your own. You will be invited to fire it (and maybe drink tea from it) at a later date. £15 per person. To book please contact Joanna on joanna@antallasolais.org.

These Precious Things: exhibition opening
Friday 20th July 2012, 7 – 9pm; exhibition continues 21st July to 12th August, open 10 – 4 daily
Join those at an talla solais for the opening of this unusual show. Gathering work from artists who specialise in working with precious or fine materials, this exhibition will explore the idea of memory.

Mara at the Summer Isles
Saturday 21st July 2012 in Achiltibuie (as part of the Summer Isles Festival), 10am – 5pm
A drop-in session for all ages to create a little square inspired by the sea, working with local artists. This workshop will be a fun way of contributing to ATS’s summer fundraising project, Mara. £1 per person. Go and join in and have a fun day out at the Summer Isles Festival at the same time.

Mara on the Pier (Ullapool)
Saturday 11th August 2012 from 11am – 1pm
As above, go along and work with local artist Mandy Henderson to make your Mara square for our summer exhibition. The Ullapool skiff regatta will be taking place at the same time so there will be plenty of inspiration out there!

Tapestry workshop: exploring warp and weft
Weekend of 18th and 19th August 2012, 10-4pm
Exhibiting artist Fiona Hutchison will be teaching this workshop alongside her summer show, Where Two Tides Meet. Tapestry weaving for beginners and advanced students: all materials are provided. Cost £95. For more information or to book please contact Fiona on 07877 457332 or at fiona.hutchison@blueyonder.co.uk. Click here to see Fiona’s own work.

Automat-ic art dispenser
TINY art wanted from Highland artists! In September ATS will host Automate, a week of activities which you are invited to get involved in in advance. London artist Elle Salt is inviting artists from the Highlands to create tiny pieces of art that will fit into a vending machine. Found objects are equally acceptable. In September all art and objects gathered will be put into little (30mm) capsules and added to the collection. As a participant you will be able to put 20p in the slot and receive a work of art back again! Bring your contributions to the ATS office or email Automate for more information: automate.exhibition@gmail.com.

The Automate week at ATS will culminate in a show of ‘automatic’ art made by artist WM Hudson inspired by Ullapool and his home town of London. To help him get a taste for Ullapool before the visit he is looking for images that you think sum up the area. Do send him your favourite local pictures – email Automate as above or post them on facebook.
