SCO bring popular classics to Eden Court
31 Jul 2012 in Highland, Music
The Scottish Chamber Orchestra returns to Inverness Eden Court Theatre on Thursday 16 August with a programme of music by Prokofiev, Mozart and Beethoven.
Dutch violinist Isabelle van Keulen directs a concert of much-loved classics, which opens with Prokofiev’s popular Symphony No 1 ‘Classical’, written at a time when Russia was in political upheaval. SCO Principal Clarinet Maximiliano Martín is the soloist in Mozart’s last complete work, his sublime Clarinet Concerto, and Beethoven’s lively First Symphony brings the evening to a close.
Van Keulen has proved hugely popular with audiences on SCO Strings tours in 2010 and 2011 and this year she makes her debut at Eden Court Theatre with the Orchestra. Soloist Maximiliano Martín has previously recorded Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto with the SCO, which was met with wide critical acclaim. Most recently, Martín has recorded Weber’s Clarinet Concerto with the Orchestra, due for release in September.
The concert forms part of the Orchestra’s 34th year of summer touring, and will also be performed in Perth and Dumfries on 17 and 18 August.
The Scottish Chamber Orchestra receives funding from the Scottish Government. The Orchestra’s programme of summer touring is generously supported by the Misses Barrie Charitable Trust.
