Scottish Ensemble Inverness residency

For four days in October – Thursday 25 to Sunday 28 – Inverness will play host to the world class musicians of the Scottish Ensemble (SE). This residency is part of a three-year programme of events designed by the company to make classical music more accessible and to reach beyond its traditional core audience.
Over the four days, the SE will perform in a range of venues across the city. There will be pop up performances for families on the Ness Islands to celebrate Halloween; a late-night screening of Murnau’s iconic 1926 film version of the legend of Faust with a live score for strings and electronics created by DJ Alex Smoke; a Tea Dance in Eden Court’s Bishop’s Palace (part of Luminate, Scotland’s creative ageing festival); members of the Ensemble will conduct coaching sessions with local amateur and youth orchestras; and chamber music performances in nursing homes.
The Ensemble will also be performing an evening concert at Eden Court on Thursday 25 October. The concert will include works by Mozart, Schumann, Purcell with a special piece by Britten – Les Illuminations, one of his best known works which will feature the Scottish tenor, Thomas Walker, complemented by live visuals from video artist, Netia Jones.

The Scottish Ensemble takes up the role of the palm court orchestra for a Sunday afternoon of ballroom classics, dancing and afternoon tea.
This is part of Luminate, Scotland’s creative ageing festival: www.luminatescotland.org
The residency will also include Scottish Ensemble working with local amateur musicians as well as taking the music to people who cannot make the concerts. On Saturday 27 October, residents of Carlton Care and Southside nursing homes will enjoy a programme of classics and favourite songs played by musicians of the Ensemble. Musicians will also be performing at the Craigmonie Centre, Drumnadrochit.
