Victoria Hall of Fame (3rd – 31st October 2012)

Highland Print Studio will host an exhibition of poignant portraits showing nine Cromarty residents who were teenagers in the Ross-shire coastal town during the Second World War. The images, created by artist and HPS Studio Manager, John McNaught, show contemporary portraits of the octogenarians interwoven with photographs and artifacts depicting their lives and loved ones from the 1940s.

The exhibition, named Victoria Hall of Fame, is part of the groundbreaking Luminate festival, Scotland’s first national arts festival for older people.

The exhibition runs from 3rd – 31st October at Highland Print Studio. The studio is open to the public: Tuesday – Saturday, 10am – 5pm (Closed for lunch 1pm – 2pm).

Workshops for Older People

To complement the exhibition, Highland Print Studio is providing workshops to 3 local older people’s groups. In keeping with the reminiscence theme of the exhibition, participants will bring along an object or photograph that has special significance to them and take portraits of each other with their cherished possession. They will then expose the images onto etching plates, ink them up and print them using a traditional etching press. The result will be their own hand-printed portrait that has the richness and quality of a traditional photogravure.
