US Songwriter Myshkin Makes Long-Awaited Return to Watercolour Studios

1 Oct 2012 in Highland, Music

Lochaber’s own Watercolour Music announces the first of the new season of highly popular House Concerts with the return of an underground legend. US singer-songwriter Myshkin and her special brand of gypsy New Orleans folk-noir made a huge impression on Nick Turner and Mary Ann Kennedy when she first visited Scotland in the early 2000s, and they’re delighted to welcome her back to their studios for a long-awaited return tour.

“Myshkin has it all”, said Mary Ann, “Anyone that’s been to a Watercolour House Concert in the past will know that we present a huge range of roots and acoustic music, but always with the emphasis on quality. I was bowled over when I first met Myshkin and heard her perform in Glencoe – songs, stage presence, the lot – so when the opportunity came up to bring her back to the Highlands on this visit, we jumped at the chance”.

Myshkin will be touring this autumn with her new album ‘That Diamond Lust’ – her seventh album, five years in the making, an irresistible mix of dark and delicate revolutionary love songs, barefoot in a tango-tronic dancing dress. Her award-winning songwriting is built of broad empathy, sharp imagery, melodic intrigue and subtle humour; her performances characterized by ease and intensity, hypnotic string playing and a seriously supple alto voice. Myshkin will also be recording an exclusive session for Mary Ann Kennedy’s late night BBC Radio 3 show, ‘World on 3’.

Talking about her return to Lochaber, Myshkin said, “One of my sweetest tour memories of all time is the boat ride up the Loch (Shiel) with the pipes floating up and out across the water”. The House Concert takes place on Sunday afternoon 7th October at 3pm, making for easy travel connections from the Fort William/Ballachulish side of Loch Linnhe as well as from the Ardnamurchan peninsula and the Road to the Isles. Donations are £10 and includes refreshments (primary kids go free!).

Booking is strongly advised to help setting up on the day – book your places by emailing Mary Ann at mak@watercolourmusic.co.uk or telephone 07918-618374. Check out the music at http://www.myshkinsrubywarblers.com/.

Past Watercolour House Concerts have included Swedish folk giants Väsen, Mount Desolation (Mumford & Sons) and current Highland darling Rachel Sermanni. And looking ahead, the next House Concerts will welcome piping legend Fred Morrison & guitarist Matheu Watson on 25th November, and old-time maestro Bruce Molsky in May 2013.
