Classical music at Mey

At short notice North Highland Connections has an opportunity to promote a concert by three performers from the Awards for Young Musicians Trust. They will give a concert in the splendid Village Hall at Mey (opposite the castle), in Caithness, on Sunday, 28th October, at 7:30pm. The admission programme costs just £5, while school students can attend free. Tickets can be purchased at the door, or reserved by calling 0752 107 7053.

NHC has recently added Awards for Young Musicians to its growing list of partner organizations, and it is hoped to build regular events featuring these gifted youngsters into its programme plans.

The performers, all in their teens, are among the best young talent in the country. They are supported by the Trust because they come from backgrounds where in many cases they have insufficient resources to allow them to develop their talent. AYM is a charitable organization which raises funds to support these young people, following a rigorous audition process, allowing them to study and to develop. Incidentally, one of the Patrons of AYM is the rising star guitarist, Milos Karadaglic, who featured in one of NHC’s Young Artistes tours a couple of years ago.

This October’s event features AYM young musicians, cellist Sarah Gait , saxophonist Jess Gillam and classical guitarist Haydn Bateman. Sarah, from Cumbria, won this year’s BBC Proms Inspire Young Composers’ Competition in the 17-18 category with her “Portrait of a Moor”. The win gave her a BBC Proms performance, a broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and a BBC commission.
