Undressed by Rag Tag & Textile

22nd October – 2nd November 2010, Macphail Centre, Ullapool

Rag Tag & Textile is a creative social firm based in Skye and Lochalsh. In October, as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts & Film Festival, the Macphail Centre will display three sculptural garments representing hidden thoughts of the mind. In approaching this subject matter, Rag Tag & Textile has embarked on the subject of mental health in an imaginative and creative way.

The three pieces consist of calico garments injected with form and colour to reflect on thoughts of depression, anxiety and hope. Using recycled fabric, Rag Tag & Textile has produced delicate sculptures rich in metaphor in order to address an emotive topic, bringing visible imagery to invisible symptoms.

Rag Tag & Textile’s commitment to recycling fabric extends to the wider organisation, where they deliver training and employment to vulnerable adults in the Highlands – essentially, in the words of one client, “recycling people”.
