Tapestry Short Courses and Masterclasses with Joan Baxter

Joan Baxter, Tapestry Artist has announced details of forthcoming classes taking place throughout 2013. All these classes are taught from her working tapestry studio in the countryside outside Brora in the North of Scotland.

An Introduction to Tapestry Weaving 2013
The basic toolkit of tapestry techniques.
This class is suitable for complete beginners and those with a little experience. Students will weave a sample and a small tapestry.
Dates: 31 May 31 – 2 June 2013

Colour 2013
Developing mixing, matching and blending techniques, introduction to wool dyeing.
Dates: 4 – 6 June 2013

Interpretive techniques 2013
Developing a tapestry vocabulary from photographic, painted/drawn and other sources.
Dates: 8 – 10 June 2013

Technical Troubleshooting 2013
Weaving flat surfaces and straight edges. Refined shapemaking and joining.
Dates: 11 – 13 June 2013

Tuition prices for 2013

All 3 day classes £210. This includes tuition, materials and a light lunch.
Joan can provide all equipment needed.
Students should find their own accommodation. Joan  can provide a list of local Bed and Brealfasts, hostels and campsites or check www.visitscotland.com

 

Bespoke Classes
Joan is happy to arrange one-off classes or a tailored programme of study for individual students or small groups. These can either be at her studio or at another location to suit the group or individual. She can also provide in-depth tutorials and professional development sessions.

CLASSES IN OTHER PLACES 2013:

TAPESTRY SUMMERSCHOOL, Denmark
Venue: Byrum, Laeso, Denmark
Dates: 5 – 9 August 2013

This is an annual class, now in its 9th year, for all skill levels. It gives students the opportunity to develop new skills and techniques, to design and weave a small tapestry during the class and to interact with others interested in tapestry. Teaching is in English and is a mixture of formal demonstration, class discussion and one to one tuition. The class takes place in Byrum school, on the beautiful island of Laesoe, off the north east coast of Jutland.
