Strathpeffer Pavilion Art Fair

15 Nov 2012 in Highland, Visual Arts & Crafts

Strathpeffer Pavilion’s spectacular annual Art Fair takes place next week. The voluntary Friends of the Pavilion Art Fair committee now has nearly 400 artists on its list and cannot possibly show work by all of them every year, however much they would love to. This year, more than 350 original works by some 130 artists working in the Highlands and Islands will be on display and for sale. These include last year’s four top sellers, Donnie Munro and Peter Munro (who are not related, so far as either of them knows!), Donald Shearer and Andrew Sinclair.

Former Runrig frontman Donnie Munro is now a successful singer/songwriter with his own band. He is also very busy nowadays with his work in developing Sabhal Mor Ostaig (about which Northings has already reported). But he rang the Pavilion this week to confirm that he will again put some of his own paintings – “two, maybe three” – into the Pavilion Art Fair. Strathpeffer Pavilion appreciates his interest and support, as well as that of the other artists who take part in the Art Fair. Although primarily a fundraising event – the biggest such in the Pavilion year – it has become widely recognised as the biggest and best display of artistic talent in the north of Scotland.

While continuing to include previous artists whose work has proved popular, the Art Fair committee does its best to keep the event fresh every year by finding (or being found by) artists who have not previously taken part. The show this year will include about 30 artists who have not previously taken part, and the team is particularly pleased new participants include noted mountain artist Jamie Hageman, Lewis-based Nigel Grounds and Skye-based William J. Swann (website links below).

The Art Fair will be open to the public:

Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd November from 10 am to 8 pm

Saturday 24th November from 10 am to 6 pm

Sunday 25th November from 10 am to 2 pm

Entry is free (though there will be a small charge for the catalogue). Prints, cards and calendars by participating artists will also be on sale and, during daytime, the Friends of the Pavilion will sell teas with their own delicious home baking.
