Print Studio on the Hunt for Older Men (GSOH essential)
12 Dec 2012 in Highland, Visual Arts & Crafts
Highland Print Studio has received funding from Age Scotland and High Life Highland to provide workshop for older men who fancy trying something a bit different. The Studio is looking for men over 50 who have never tried anything artistic before, but might like to try a bit of printmaking.
Printmaking techniques involve a mixture of skills and machinery that are both modern and traditional. There’s no need to be able to draw, because marks can be made in a variety of ways from cutting and carving through to photography. The emphasis is on providing a relaxing and sociable environment for people to learn new skills.
Alison McMenemy, Director of Highland Print Studio said, “We received this funding specifically to work with older men because research shows that older men have difficulty finding activities that are appealing to them. We’re hoping that printmaking and its emphasis on working with materials, tools and equipment, might be the thing that gets their creative juices flowing!”
We have our first group of ‘Wise Guys’ starting in the studio next week and plan to start our next group of classes in early January 2013. If you’d like to find out more about the opportunity you can contact John, Alison or Avril at the Studio on:
