12 Feb 2013 in Music
ONE DAY, TWO CONCERTS, FOUR COMPOSERS, ONE HOUR!
Hebrides Ensemble’s Rush Hour programme packs two concerts in different locations into one day.
Monday 25 February | Horsercross, Perth, 1pm | Canongate Kirk, Edinburgh, 6pm
‘Hebrides Ensemble are one of the great glories of Scotland’
– Sir Peter Maxwell Davies
Hugely acclaimed Scottish chamber music group Hebrides Ensemble will attempt a geographic feat on Monday 25 February: two concerts in different towns, each an hour long and featuring a programme of four very different composers.
RUSH HOUR 2 Schubert: Trio in B flat D.471 Bach arr Mozart: Prelude and Fugue, from No.2, S.526 Kurtag: Signs, Games and Messages (5 movts) Dohnanyi: Serenade
From the melodic, tuneful world of Schubert and Dohnanyi to the intruiging inner world of Kurtag, this programme demonstrates the beauty and the huge range of the string trio. On Monday 25th February, Hebrides Ensemble invite the people of Perth to join them at a lunchtime concert, while their early-evening Edinburgh event is perfectly timed to catch an after-work crowd looking to unwind and shake off the day before heading home. Now a staple of Hebrides Ensemble’s repertoire, the popular Rush Hour concerts juxtapose much-loved chamber pieces with short bursts of exciting contemporary music, packing a wide range of aural experiences tightly into an hour. Rush Hour 1, the Ensemble’s first 2013 concert, played to full lunchtime houses earlier this month in Perth (4 Feb) and Edinburgh (5 Feb).
