Cahalen Morrison & Eli West tour dates
2 Apr 2013 in Aberdeen City & Shire, Highland, Music
When Cahalen and Eli released their stunning debut album, The Holy Coming of The Storm it met with instantaneous reaction on both sides of the Atlantic. Bob Harris invited them to record a session for his BBC Radio 2 show, saying their music was “quite extraordinary”, and Mary Ann Kennedy recorded a studio session for BBC Radio 3’s World on 3 as well.
They created such an impact during their first ever UK tour in 2011 that Celtic Connections gave them a show of their own in Glasgow and they then appeared at just about every major outdoor event throughout 2012.
When The Saturday Review section of The Times asked leading UK singer-songwriter Chris Wood to choose his Six of The Best Folk Acts, he included Cahalen and Eli, saying they were “passionate, committed, accomplished, searching and sailing in the sea of their own inheritance”.
BBC Alba filmed and screened a documentary about Cahalen tracing his family roots back to the Island of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides as he went on a musical pilgrimage there to meet distant relatives and visit the croft where his Great Grandfather – a respected Gaelic Bard who had his work published – once lived before emigrating to America.
The duo are back on this side of the Atlantic promoting their stunning new album, Our Lady of The Tall Trees which once more has attracted much praise and ended up at the Number 3 slot on the Americana UK Top Ten releases of 2012 list.
When the end-of-the-year American Roots Music Report, compiled according to actual Stateside radio plays coast-to-coast, was published to reveal the 2012 Top 100, they found themselves at the Number 10 slot, thanks to the amount of exposure the record got.
