Celebrate island culture and heritage this autumn and winter with an action-packed line-up of exciting events as part of the Year of Scotland’s Islands festivities.

A new exhibition of drawings by Ron Sandford opens in Da Gadderie at Shetland Museum and Archives this weekend (15th October – 20th November 2011).

No way are Scotland’s Islands slowing down as autumn approaches! Not a bit of it. October’s a truly sparkling month with great music and comedy in the northern isles and a feast of storytelling at events from Cumbrae to Bute, to Skye and the Hebrides, to Orkney and Shetland.

After the enormous success of The Illustrators – Julia Donaldson’s exhibition of children’s book illustration that has seen record numbers of visitors at Bonhoga over the last month, comes something equally fun but very, very different!

Bonhoga Gallery are holding a public opening of Blow Up by Simon Biggs and Sue Hawksley, on Friday 30th September 2011 at the Bonhoga Gallery from 5pm to 7pm.

A reminder that Brae Editions will launch Ecstatics: a language of birds at the Pier Arts Centre, Stromness, this evening, Thursday, September 1st, at 5.45 for 6pm. A further launch will take place tomorrow evening in Shetland, at the Islesburgh Centre, Lerwick, 8pm.

The latest exhibition in Da Gadderie, open from 3rd September, is inspired by the North Atlantic Drift, a powerful warm ocean current that continues the Gulf Stream North East.

A new exhibition if photographic portraits by Anita Orheim has gone on show in the departure lounge at Sumburgh airport as part of the Bonhoga Gallery Touring Exhibition Programme organised by Shetland Arts. Moving Through Borders will remain at Sumburgh until late November when it will transfer to The Peerie Shop Café in Lerwick and then Whalsay, Unst and Yell Leisure Centres over the next year.
