The Cromarty Hall in St Margaret’s Hope, Orkney is organising a Book Festival on 30th October 2011 in the hall.

No way are Scotland’s Islands slowing down as autumn approaches! Not a bit of it. October’s a truly sparkling month with great music and comedy in the northern isles and a feast of storytelling at events from Cumbrae to Bute, to Skye and the Hebrides, to Orkney and Shetland.

The Pier Arts Centre and the Orkney Heritage Society are offering a rare opportunity to purchase a reproduction of a drawing by Orcadian artist Sylvia Wishart.

A short series of talks, events and performances is being presented at the Pier Arts Centre, Stromness this week to highlight Japanese art and culture. The events will also be an opportunity for people to hear first had accounts of the earth quake and tsunami and their disastrous aftermath that hit the North East of Japan in March.

Evanescent is an exhibition of small scale works by Jenna Hume which is currently taking place at For Arts Sake Gallery in Kirkwall and will run until 5th October 2011.

A reminder that Brae Editions will launch Ecstatics: a language of birds at the Pier Arts Centre, Stromness, this evening, Thursday, September 1st, at 5.45 for 6pm. A further launch will take place tomorrow evening in Shetland, at the Islesburgh Centre, Lerwick, 8pm.

A western themed music and film night is soon to hit Orkney on 9 & 10 September 2011 courtesy of the recently formed Orkney Moving Image Society.

On Saturday, 3 September 2011, the Gable End Theatre in Orkney has a bumper triple bill of speakers to bring the 2011 Orkney International Science Festival to Hoy and Walls.
